Safe Travel Information

The health and safety of our visitors is of primary importance to the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Our goal is to assure you that, when you’re ready to visit the area, you can do so with confidence.  We’ve searched information to answer questions many visitors are asking during this time of testing the waters and have assembled it here for you.  Hotels and attractions throughout greater Birmingham have implemented new and enhanced procedures to safeguard guests.  Please visit our Where to Stay page for updated information on accommodation sanitation policies.

Being a safe and responsible traveler has never been more important. Alabama ended the statewide mask ordinance effective April 9, 2021. The Birmingham city council voted to not extend the citywide mask ordinance past the previously extended May 24, 2021 deadline. Text BHMCOVID to 888777 to receive alerts. Before visiting the Birmingham area, we recommend confirming all reservations, especially if you made them in advance of the pandemic. This applies to hotels, restaurants, and attractions, as businesses are reopening at different paces with different guidelines for their guests.

If you arriving by plane, you can get the latest COVID-19 information and updates from the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.  Follow CDC guidance and recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated people. A message from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is available here. The Transportation Security Administration has officially extended the federal mask mandate, under security directive 1542-21-01B, through January 18, 2022. The newly dispersed directive is set to go into effect on September 14, 2021, as the current directive is set to expire a day prior. All requirements outline within SD 21-01B will be enforced on the premises throughout the effective date.
