Day 1

Your Thursday

Welcome! We hope you’ve arrived hungry. After all, this is the Dinner Table of the South. Tonight, we’ll be serving up pizza at Post Office Pies – recently voted one of the top 33 pizza places in America by Thrillist. Here, hand-tossed pizzas cooked in traditional wood-fired brick ovens are just the ticket for the road-weary traveler!

Day 2

Your Friday

Rise and shine! We’ve got a big day planned for you, starting with a big breakfast at a Birmingham classic, The Original Pancake House. From flap jacks to omelets, to eggs Benedict, and crepes you’ll find just about anything your breakfast imagination can conjure up.

Today is all about art and science. While a trip to an art museum may not seem like an exciting activity for a child, the Birmingham Museum of Art takes pride in giving kids a cool, hands-on experience they’ll be talking about when they get back home. Our day starts here.

Your next stop will be the McWane Science Center. From Moe Ray the eel, to a bubble room where you can make huge soap bubbles, to the IMAX Dome Theater, there’s more to do at McWane than you can possibly do in a day. Stay for lunch, or walk across the street to the Pizitz Food Hall, where you’ll find everything from burgers and hotdogs to Indian street food.

If you’re feeling like a change of scenery after lunch, check out the Birmingham Zoo. With 700 animals spread out over 122 acres, the Zoo makes for a great way to walk off lunch. While you’re there, make sure you take a train ride through the park.

Dinner tonight takes you to McFly’s Bird Shoppe, a “new age chicken tender shop.” Dip your tenders in any one of 16 different sauces, and throw in a little bit of mac and cheese while you’re at it. Top it off with a chocolate chip cookie and you’ll be ready to hop on your hover board.

Day 3

Your Saturday

Gooooood morning, intrepid traveler! Today we’ll be climbing to new heights. So, to get you started off right, we recommend a hearty breakfast at Another Broken Egg Café. With brunch cocktails for mom and dad and a kids menu featuring everything from chocolate chip pancakes to French toast, you can’t go wrong.

Our first stop after breakfast takes us to the big man on the hill. Vulcan, at 56 feet, and 50 tons, is the largest cast iron statue in the world. If you want a truly spectacular view of Birmingham, be sure to go atop the pedestal.

At this point, we’re going to give you a choice between jumping, climbing, and zipping. For example, you could go get your jump on with a trip to Urban Air, an adventure park with trampolines and more. Find your inner dodgeball freak, or take a spin around the track in the karts.

If bouncing’s not your jam, what about climbing? High Point and Birmingham Boulders both offer exceptional indoor climbing experiences.

Feeling the need for fresh air? Check out Red Mountain Park’s ropes course and ziplines. Test your nerves 40 feet above the ground, or heed your need for speed while dangling from a harness.

Day 4

Your Sunday

Not ones to put you on the road hungry, we recommend stopping by Rojo for a little brunch before you go. With both American and Latin versions of brunch foods you’ll find bueno options for both you and the bambinos.

YOUR TAKEAWAY

There’s plenty to do, see, and eat for the entire family.
So, why go any further than Birmingham for a nice long weekend with the kids? We’ll see you soon!
