BIRMINGHAM SQUADRON’S NBA AFFILIATE TO TAKE ON THE HOUSTON ROCKETS AT LEGACY ARENA WITH TIP-OFF SET FOR 7:00PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala – The New Orleans Pelicans, and its stars, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, will return to Birmingham for a preseason game for the second consecutive season as New Orleans takes on former Auburn Tiger Jabari Smith and the Houston Rockets at Legacy Arena on Oct. 12 at 7:00pm.

Legacy Arena is home to the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ NBA G League affiliate. Last season’s preseason game between New Orleans and the Atlanta Hawks was played in front of a sellout crowd of 15,486.

“We want to thank the City of Birmingham, the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, and everyone involved that allows for the Pelicans to make our second preseason appearance at Legacy Arena,” said Pelicans Governor Gayle Benson. ”The decision to launch the Squadron was a commitment by the Pelicans organization to invest in the Birmingham community, and we are humbled to have the team play another preseason game in Birmingham to kickoff our season.”

“We are thrilled to once again bring the Pelicans and NBA basketball to the Magic City,” said Birmingham Squadron general manager Leslie Claybrook. “I know Birmingham will bring the same level of excitement and energy as it did for last year’s sold out preseason game and provide the Squadron great momentum going into year three.”

Both the Pelicans and Rockets won their last game in Birmingham, with New Orleans defeating Atlanta, 120-111, last season, while Houston bested Memphis 131-115 on Oct. 2, 2018 at Legacy Arena.
