Black History Month (2)

With the theme “Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories,” the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute rolls out a series of community events in February.  Highlights of the month’s events include a partnership with Red Mountain Theatre Co. to present “This Little Light of Mine.”  The one-act play presents the life of Fannie Lou Hamer as an American Voting rights activist and civil rights leader.  Throughout the month, the institute will have “American Boricua,” a documentary photography exhibition by award-winning photojournalist Wanda Benvenutti.  Other events include “Little Giants: Children of the Civil Rights Movement,” an exhibition of work by local Huffman High School students.  Usually closed on Mondays, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will be open Mondays through February.
