It’s official. The long-anticipated opening of the Lyric Theatre is set for January 14 with three nights of “Moderne Vaudeville.” The Lyric was opened as a vaudeville venue in 1914 but was converted to a movie house by the 1930s as theatrical revues were replaced with moving pictures. The theater has undergone an $11 million renovation. The grand opening events include esteemed local performers including nationally-acclaimed storyteller Dolores Hydock, hometown treasures Three on a String, and world famous vocalists The Birmingham Sunlights.
