With its grand opening just a short time away, designers and construction workers are putting the finishing touches on Birmingham’s new Negro League baseball museum. The museum sits next to Regions Field, home to the Birmingham Barons. Items set for display include the oldest Negro League trophy, along with uniforms and other memorabilia. Texas collector Layton Revel, founder of the Center for Negro League Baseball Research, will house his collection at the museum. Displays will begin with material from the late 1890s with the industrial teams of steel workers and miners in the area. Interactive exhibits are also planned, along with the history of the Black Barons who played at historic Rickwood Field. http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2015/06/a_first_look_inside_birmingham.html
