In February, the Birmingham Museum of Art will also bring us the early works of Alabama artist Frank Fleming. Between Fantasy and Reality will showcase a period between 1970-1985 when Fleming worked primarily in clay, stoneware and ceramics. He later became known internationally for his large-scale bronze sculptures. The exhibition takes its name from Fleming’s forms inspired by imagination but referencing reality, sculptures often depicting animals that invoke humor, curiosity and even melancholy. The works will be on display in the museum’s main lobby February 27-August 1. www.artsbma.org
