Back in 1955, when rock-n-roll was brand new, the Magic City tuned to WSGN to hear the revolution. Birmingham’s first Top 40 Station had a remote studio on 7th Avenue South, at the heart of the Lakeview District. Deejays took live requests from their “sky castle”; a glass-walled booth over Ed Salem’s Drive-In. Teenagers would cruise up to the joint, order burgers from carhops on roller skates, and hang out to listen to DJs spin their favorite hits.

60 years later a new Sky Castle sits in the same spot; a nod to the past while shaping the future. Jeff, Chris and Jason Bajalieh – brothers well known in Birmingham restaurant circles for their popular “Sol’s” and “Slice” concepts – have created a high energy eatery that promises to become a neighborhood favorite.
