Let the Music Play
Dining and live music are widely considered to be Birmingham’s signature entertainment.  The popular British music and fashion magazine and website Clash took notice recently in a piece about Future Elevators, a Birmingham (Alabama) based alternative band.  In the article they wrote, “…the South (however it is defined) is as diverse as they come.  Birmingham, Alabama, boasts a thriving music scene, one that seems to cough up oddball talent on a near weekly basis.”  Compliment accepted.

And Speaking of Music
Love it or hate it, classic 1980s rock takes the stage with “Rock of Ages” at Virginia Samford Theatre through February 21.  Set in LA’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, the musical is about an unlikely couple chasing their dreams to make the big time.  The score is as big as Houston hair, with songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister and more.  Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely.

Dancing with Dulcinea
Help revive chivalry!  The Alabama Ballet presents “Don Quixote” at Samford University February 19-21.  It is, of course, a classical ballet about a nobleman obsessed with ancient chivalry.  Don Quixote and his trusty servant Sancho Panza battle imaginary enemies in a valiant attempt to rescue Dulcinea, the lady of his dreams.
