Developers broke ground last month on a Hilton hotel that will be the first of its kind in the country. Underway in the Parkside area of downtown Birmingham, the double-branded Hilton will be a Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites, an extended stay brand. The properties will share certain features such as registration, office space, pool and a fitness center. The brands will have a combined total of 210 guest rooms along with a restaurant and bar. Construction should take about 18 months. Parkside has seen a number of new developments since the opening of Regions Field, Birmingham’s new downtown baseball park.
