The tourism department is placing plans for its fall Destination Birmingham tour, set for September 8. More than 40 participants already have signed on to tour a variety of Birmingham attractions, and more are expected to register. The CVB offers the tours quarterly to familiarize front desk personnel with things to see and do in Birmingham and the surrounding region.

The first of the month finds Chianti Cleggett from the convention sales department in Louisville for the Professional Fraternity Association meeting. This marketplace is a valuable resource for booking fraternal meetings, conferences and conventions. Mid-month, Amy Hudson and area hospitality partners will host an event in Montgomery for state meeting planners. The gathering will showcase area hotels, attractions, restaurants and meeting facilities. Later in the month, Brent Cotton travels to Little Rock for Small Meetings Market IV. The tradeshow is geared toward planners interested in holding meetings in places other than first tier cities.

In marketing & communications, Vickie Ashford is currently hosting a PBS film crew here to feature up and coming “hip” neighborhoods for the show “Travels with Darley.” The new series begins airing this fall on PBS and will be online at MSN, Budget Travel, Huffington Post and more. Vickie recently hosted a visit with a contributor to The Boston Globe who was here to write about long-established, award-winning restaurants such as the Bright Star.
