Civil Rights Institute Juneteenth festival set
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will have its 20th Juneteenth Culture Festival on June 6 at historic Kelly Ingram Park. The institute is commemorating the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. The family-oriented event is free and will include music, contests, food vendors and free admission to the BCRI galleries. www.bcri.org

USA TODAY recently named downtown Railroad Park as one of the “10 best U.S. parks that helped to revive their city.” The 19-acre park was formerly a neglected rail yard, but public and private funds transformed it into a multi-award-winning urban green space for running, walking biking and picnicking.

The spring/summer film series return to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens May 13 with a screening of “Jurassic Park.” June and July films are “Ghostbusters” and “Top Gun” respectively.
