Birmingham’s highly acclaimed Sidewalk Film Festival is less than a month away. It’s a weekend where you can take a break from the endless search through Netflix’s queue and get a taste of the latest films in the independent film industry. With over 200 films on deck, Sidewalk attracts talent from all over. MovieMaker magazine names it one of “The 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World.”

The Festival celebrates its 20th year, starting on August 20. Start the popcorn and check out the schedule to plan out your must-see flicks. The opening film this year is White Tide: The Legend of Culebra, the larger-than-life story of a desperate Florida family man who goes on a wild treasure hunt for $2 million worth of cocaine.

In addition to the two opening night films, the Festival is host to documentary features, narrative features, shorts, kids and family programming, two unique special events, two closing night films and an awards show. VIP, weekend pass and day pass tickets are available.
